Job Description:

The Wintel SQL Database Administrator (SQL DBA) is responsible for implementing, operating, and maintaining SQL Databases and related components to ensure high levels of availability and security of the system. This person will drive adherence to the planning and implementation of policies and procedures to ensure database maintenance is consistent with organizational goals, industry best practices, and established security requirements. In addition to traditional DBA responsibilities, you will be part of a team that will leverage multiple cloud technologies to evolve our hosting platforms. Experience with Cloud technologies, infrastructure transformation and automation is a must.

The right candidate will need to possess the drive and interpersonal skills to resolve common conflicts experienced through transformation, help evolve the team, the platform and constantly drive business value in a dynamic and hyper-fast environment.

Responsibilities:

  • Perform MS SQL Database Administration, including but not limited to: database installs, patches, upgrades, clustering, configuration, custom scripting and security.

  • Create guidelines standards and procedures to streamline the processes and coordinate with multiple groups for maintenance activities.

  • Perform requested changes, updates and modifications to database structure and data to ensure change does not adversely affect database integrity, stability and/or system availability.

  • Ensure solutions are maintained for high availability, scalability, security, and supportability

  • Support production systems for database problem resolution, recovery and emergency off-hour support Responsible for maintaining 24/7 database availability.

  • Research and recommend tools and procedures for increased infrastructure performance.

  • Schedule and perform regular SQL DB maintenance operations according to workload pattern and usage of the SQL DB.

  • Create guidelines standards and procedures to streamline the processes and coordinate with multiple groups for maintenance activities.

  • Perform capacity planning, cluster set up, performance tuning and monitoring.

  • Run multiple database instance for workloads and tune DB accordingly.

  • Monitor systems; proactively manage and maintain configurations to insure performance and availability

  • Perform problem isolation, definition, resolution and follow-up. Inform management and teams about issues and resolution.

  • Assist in Backup and Recovery operations including Disaster Recovery planning.

  • Set up replication and Always On availability groups for SQL server

Objective:

  • 7 years relational database administration skills (security including adding/delete/modify user accounts, basic networking, SQL, schema creation/manipulation, performance tuning, server hardware, logging, monitoring, policy creation and enforcement, Windows Server 2012 and higher) required

  • Strong understanding of best practices and the application of policies and procedures through database administration experience and/or certification, with practical experience in monitoring and tuning databases, instances, and database servers.

  • Have a deep understanding of back end/server/api development, including application and database/data development and architectures

  • Familiarity with CI/CD and automation (Jenkins, Ansible, TFS, Kubernetes, Terraform)

  • Experience with SSRS, SSIS, table indexing, views, backups, SQL server log reviews, error corrections, database creation/changes, and scheduled replication of databases.

  • Hands-on experience with APM Solution (Dynatrace, New Relic, and/or AppDynamics)

  • Strong knowledge of operating systems, server security, server hardware, monitoring database capacity, utilization, replication, backups and disaster recovery; ability to manage SQL Servers in a clustered environment required.

  • Ability and willingness for on-call and after-hours work

Education:

  • Relevant certifications (SQL Server, AWS, CCP, etc.)

  • High School diploma or equivalent required
