Responsibilities

  • Design Windows systems based on requirements from internal developers and external partners

  • Work with Operations team to implement systems designs

  • Provide hands-on Windows system administration, patching, scripting and maintenance.

  • Collaborate with a cross-functional team of application developers and operations engineers to understand complex product requirements and translate them into automated solutions

  • Collaborate with peers to support and improve architecture, systems, processes, standards and tools

  • Participate in architectural discussions to ensure solutions are designed for successful deployment, security, and high availability in support of Infrastructure, Software and Platform as a Service offerings

  • Troubleshooting of complex systems involving compute, network, and storage components

  • Develop and maintain capacity plans for all systems

  • Ensure adherence to policies/standards

  • Write and maintain code for automating the creation of scalable/resilient systems/infrastructure

  • Ensure all solutions are properly monitored and instrumented

  • Analyze server, network and storage characteristics (e.g. CPU behavior, latency, transmission speeds, packet loss and throughput), triage and troubleshoot problems

Qualifications

  • 8+ years administering Windows Server with enterprise level skills in Windows physical and virtual environments

  • 5+ years’ experience supporting IIS and .NET applications with SQL Server backends

  • 3+ years’ scripting experience (PowerShell, Python, Bash, Perl, etc…)

  • Experience supporting Windows Failover Clusters and SQL Always On availability groups

  • Proven track record troubleshooting highly available applications

  • 1+ years leveraging automation and orchestration utilities such as Puppet, Chef, or Docker

  • Working knowledge of standard Windows Server security methodologies, hardening procedures, and best practices.

  • Understanding of agile and other development processes and methodologies

  • Knowledge of the various services and capabilities of cloud computing platforms (AWS, OpenStack, Azure etc.)

  • Knowledge and understanding of CI/CD processes and tools

  • Proven experience with complex multi-site and global network design, multi-layered switch environment, firewalls, VPN, Load balancers, and DNS

Soft Skills and Education

  • Aptitude for influencing others without direct authority

  • Ability to prioritize, and work well under pressure

  • Excellent communication and documentation skills, both in technical and non-technical arenas

  • Adept at learning and applying new technologies and solving new problems

  • Relevant certifications (Windows, AWS, CCP, etc.)

  • Bachelor’s degree
