PARC’s Intelligent Systems Lab (ISL) is searching for a senior researcher in the Artificial Intelligence (AI) area who will advance our research efforts to building intelligent systems that integrate multiple AI techniques including Heuristic Search/Planning, Knowledge Representation, Diagnosis, Natural Language Processing, and Machine Learning. This requires developing AI components, integrating them with various environments, and asses their performance through evaluations along metrics. Projects include work with various government agencies (e.g., DARPA, DOE, NIST) and Xerox funded AI technology in Digital Design and Manufacturing, IoT, and AI applications.

Responsibilities:

  • Participate in research projects as an expert in their field, with a willingness to learn new expertise as needed for domain specific applications

  • Research, design, develop, and implement innovative approaches, methods, and algorithms through proof of concept software

  • Work with internal and external collaborators to formulate problems and define requirements

  • Develop research plans, write proposals and lead technical projects

  • Contribute to projects within PARC in the AI area

Requirements:

  • MS or PhD in Computer Science or related discipline

  • Strong publication record demonstrating expertise in AI techniques such as Heuristic Search/Planning, Knowledge Representation, Diagnosis or Machine Learning, Cognitive Systems and Interactive AI Systems

  • Experiences with AI planning languages (e.g., PDDL) is a plus

  • Programming on research projects in multiple high-level languages (e.g., Python, Java, C++)

  • Research mindset and ability to contribute to writing proposals

  • Self-starting: Can work independently within a multi-disciplinary team

  • Experience in reading scientific papers and replicating methods

  • Familiarity with modern software tools and practices
