PARC is incubating a new software venture in the Industrial Internet of Things (IIoT) space.
We are looking for an experienced Electrical Systems Engineer who will be responsible for the design and development of data acquisition systems used for industrial predictive maintenance solution. The primary responsibility is the design, development, and management of innovative data acquisition solutions that exceed the capabilities of current systems on the market. We do not expect the successful candidate to design everything by himself or herself: the right candidate would work with internal and external resources in order to meet the overall project requirements and provide industry-leading capabilities given external time and budget constraints. In other words, we are looking to hire a “smart buyer” who is able to work with senior management to understand high-level requirements and with design engineers in order to convert these high-level requirements into design directives and constraints.
The successful candidate would have proven himself/herself with the design and development of successful data acquisition systems that are in use today. In this context, data acquisition implies everything from the physical phenomena of interest (pressure, vibration, temperature, current, etc.) to the acquisition, processing, and transmission of data to end users.
To that end, areas of interest include instrumentation strategies in order to measure physical phenomena , sensor selection, sensor installation, data acquisition, edge computing, and integrating new sensors in the client environment including integration with client IT and OT systems. In addition, the Electrical Systems Engineer would be ultimately responsible for the operational safety of the hardware elements of the predictive maintenance solution.
Specific responsibilities Include:
Design and development of instrumentation data acquisition and networking strategies in order to sense parameters of interest on industrial assets
Interaction with PARC clients to understand the client DCS/SCADA environment and deploy innovative data acquisitions systems in in the client environment
Definition of networking and communication strategies in the client environment in order to ensure reliable communications between hardware elements
Selection, testing, and commissioning of COTS sensors, data acquisition systems, networking systems, and edge computing solutions
Design and development of custom data acquisition and edge computing solutions as needed
Adherence with PARC and client regulations, policies and standards including workplace safety regulations.
Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or similar scientific discipline
At least 5 years of professional industrial experience including:
Familiarity with circuit simulation and design tools.
Design and development of instrumentation and data acquisition systems
Working knowledge industrial plant IT and OT systems, including IT/OT systems integration
Deep knowledge of common industrial sensors and actuators
Demonstrated ability and willingness to learn new technologies
Track record of successful industrial projects.
Desired technical skills include:
Fluency in CAD (SolidWorks, AutoCAD, or similar)
Familiarity with CAE tools including FEA and CFD
Familiarity with circuit design tools
Ability to read P&ID diagrams
Desired personal skills include:
Strong problem-solving and independent decision-making skills
Effective team player
Excellent organizational skills with attention to detail and the ability to manage several projects simultaneously
Strong communication skills (oral and written).
